Procedures for the Solar Eclipse:
On Monday, April 8, 2024, the moon will perfectly align between the Earth and the sun, casting a shadow upon our planet. The next total solar eclipse visible from the United States won't happen until 2044. The solar eclipse is an exhilarating phenomenon where the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, partially or completely obscuring the Sun’s light.
Our school will be operating on the regular schedule but all outdoor activities will be suspended during the time block of the eclipse - recess and lunch. Welby Way has purchased protective eye gear for all students to wear to safe viewing. Classes with supervision will be going outside using protective eyeglasses to view the eclipse. ***For your child to participate in the eclipse using protective eye wear, you must return the attached permission slip to your child's teacher by Monday morning. Students not returning the slip will not be able to participate in the observation outdoors and will go to the auditorium to view the eclipse on line. Please remind your child that it is crucial to remember not to look directly at the sun during the eclipse without protective eye wear to avoid permanent eye damage.
Lost and Found - Once again our lost and found is overflowing. Please stop by the front of the school to retrieve your child's lost clothing, jackets, lunch boxes, and water bottles. All items will be bagged and donated at the end of next week. Also, please remember to always label your child's jackets, lunch boxes, and water bottles so they can easily be returned to the student.
3rd Grade Field Trip: On Thursday rooms 9 and 33 will be going on a field trip to Leonis Adobe for a day of learning about the Chumash. All children must have a completed and returned field trip slip to participate. All other 3rd grade classes will be going in the next couple weeks.
Fitness Week: Our amazing parents of POWW are working extremely hard to prepare for our fun and exciting Fitness Week that will start on April 15th. The fundraising has already began as we work to raise dollars to support the our Welby Way P.E. program and equipment that our students participate in each week. Yearbook: Yearbook planning and creating is underway and your help is needed with the sharing of any of your photos that you have taken throughout the school year of memorable events - field trips, class projects, presentations, and events. Please send your photos to [email protected]

Calendar Reminders: There will be no school on Wednesday, April 24th in observance of Armenian Genocide. Also, mark your calendar for Thursday, May 2nd for our annual Open House for all grades from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.
